What, you’re using a mix?
I don’t use mixes, ever. Usually when I see a recipe that starts with a cake mix, I’m out. But, I make an exception for these brownies. I do start with a mix. I start with a brownie mix. And not just any brownie mix- it has to be Ghiradelli. I’ve tried to make these brownies with a home-made recipe. I’ve tried these brownies with other brands of brownie mixes. Either way gives you good brownies. But, for great brownies, use a Ghiradelli mix. Which one? It doesn’t seem to matter. Whether it’s the Ghiradelli double chocolate, the Ultimate Brownie or the extra chips version, whatever. All Ghiradelli chip brownie mixes seem to be magic.
Does the Chocolate Chip Brand Matter? YES!
There are no other chocolate chips that taste like Guittard Chips. It will be tempting to use chocolate chips that cost less or are easier to find. Don’t do it. I’ve tried them all and the Guittard Extra Dark Chocolate (63%) make the best brownies.
One Box of Ghiradelli Dark Chocolate Brownie Mix
1 Cup of Guittard Dark Chocolate Chips
Oil, water and egg according to the instructions on the back of the box.
I don’t usually include equipment information but these brownies require some specific equipment, an air fryer and silicone cupcake liners to be exact. The silicone cupcake liners are the secret to a perfect balance of crisp edges and ooey-gooey centers, all produced in the air fryer in 11 and a half minutes.
Air Fryer of your choice
General Baking Equipment: Mixing Bowl and Wooden Spoon- the recipe does not require an electric mixer.
1 Box Ghiradelli Brownie Mix
1 Cup Guittard Chocolate Chips
Egg, water and vegetable oil as stated in the instructions of your brownie mix.
Optional, spray oil
Optional, spray the silicone liners with the spray oil. (it’s marginally easier to pull the brownies out of the liners with the spray but the spray is not a requirement).
Mix the oil, egg and water in a large bowl
Add the brownie mix
Stir in the chocolate chips
Fill the silicone liners each 2/3 full
Let the air fryer preheat at 325 for 3 minutes
Put the filled silicone liners in the air fryer, cook in the airfryer for 11 1/2 minutes
Voila, you have the best brownies ever!

- 1 Air Fryer
- 1 Regular Mixing Equpment This recipe can be hand mixed, doesn't require a power mixer
- 1 Box Ghiradelli Brownie Mix
- 1 Cup Guittard Chocolate Chips
- Egg water and vegetable oil as stated in the instructions of your brownie mix.
- Spray Oil
- Lightly spray oil to coat the inside of the silicone cupcake liners
- Mix the oil, egg and water in a large bowl
- Add the brownie mix
- Stir in the chocolate chips
- Fill the silicone liners each 2/3 full
- Let the air fryer preheat at 325 for 3 minutes
- Put the filled silicone liners in the air fryer, cook in the airfryer for 11 1/2 minutes
- Voila, you have the best brownies ever!
